Meditation is Medicine for the Mind
Oct 15, 2024
I never knew this would change my life forever…
During a recent visit to my parents, my Mum shared something unexpected: she’d bumped into Odin, a sweet Buddhist nun I hadn’t seen in over 15 years. When Odin heard I was visiting, she asked that I leave my contact details at the reception of the nearby Buddhist centre, as she wanted to see.
This was such a beautiful surprise, as I had such fond memories of her.

👋 How we first met:
Years ago, my Dad took me to a free meditation class at the local Buddhist centre. I was young, clueless, but curious. The centre was warm, colourful and welcoming. We all sat quietly, shoes off, on chairs.
Then in walked Odin, a little smiling English lady radiating peaceful, joyous energy. She took me by total surprise—down-to-earth, so playful, and cracking jokes. Her laughter was contagious, her presence magnetic. A true character!
During the meditation, she said, “Your mind has wandered… Bring it back”. I thought, how did she know!? Afterward, she explained, “Meditation is like medicine for the mind”. I didn’t fully understand it then, but I left feeling grounded, aware, and more peaceful.

⏩ Fast forward to my recent visit:
I left a message for Odin but heard nothing back. Just before leaving the city, I decided last minute to take my girlfriend to see the centre and meditation room.
As we sat meditating together, the door opened… and there she was. Odin popped her head in, just as I remembered. It was such a beautiful synchronicity. I was so overwhelmed with joy, I burst into tears. It was a magical reunion—her energy was as radiant as ever. She blessed us, shared her wisdom, and, of course, cracked many jokes!
Now, I understand why Odin’s presence is so captivating. She embodies what she teaches—love, kindness, and joy. Her high level of consciousness and deep sense of inner peace are palpable.
